IPPs were selectively bred to be ideal for pasture-based farms. Their short, upturned snout deters rooting and promotes grazing.
They are docile, attentive mothers with vigorous, well-growing piglets. Our sows have an average of 10 per litter and farrow twice per year. Rarely requiring assistance during farrowing.
They thrive year-round on pasture; they have a thick coat of hair that protects them from sunburn and biting insects in the summer and keeps them warm during harsh winter weather.
IPPs require less supplemental grain than larger traditional breeds. This lowers off-farm costs and produces healthier pork. They reach 250-300 lbs and are ready for processing at 8-10 months.
Our boars and sows are bred to have gentle temperaments, making them ideal for homesteads and small farms. We love that the kids can care for our piggies without worrying about them being aggressive.
Their pork is red, well-marbled, perfect for those who appreciate old-world pork!
